Nessebar is some 33 km North of Bourgas. The old town of Nessebar is located on a small peninsula in the Black Sea which is linked with the land only by a long and narrow isthmus. The town of Nessebar is one of the oldest towns in Europe. It is the successor of the ancient Thracian settlement called Mesambria founded in the Second century AD. Nessebar is best known for the old town on the peninsula. Old Nessebar is the antique part of Nessebar situated on a rocky peninsula jutting out into the sea. Architectural monuments from the Antique, Medieval and Revival ages are well preserved on the territory of the town - stone walls, brick and ceramic ornaments and arches, streets and external staircases, gift shops, pubs could be seen. The Old Nessebar is included in the UNESCO's List of World Cultural Heritage. The most impressive sightseeing of Nessebar are the ancient churches.
