Pleven occupies the Central part of Miziya (the DAnube plain). The town is located at almost equal distance from the Danube River and the Balkan mountain range. Pleven is 170 km away from the capital Sofia. Its central location in Northern Bulgaria defines its importance as a big administrative, economic, political, cultural, transport and telecommunication centre. Pleven has preserved its cultural and historical heritage which makes it famous as the town of museums. The town has played an important role through the ages - the first Bulgarian local revolutionary committee has been established there. The name of the town reaches world fame at the time of Russian-Turkish War. The park of "Skobelev" is located on the very battle field were the detachment of General Skobelev conducts blood shedding battles to seize Pleven from the Ottomans. The only on Balkan peninsula Panorama "Pleven Epopee 1877" is a unique and impressive monument.
